    Stenciling in Action (Bird Ross)

Pedestrian Art for Democracy consisted of chalk-based messages and images stenciled on city sidewalks and bike paths throughout Madison during the month preceding the presidential election (Fall of 2004). The messages were meant to encourage citizens to vote.

Artists Bird Ross and Brenda Baker co-conspirators in this project contend, 'Democracy is currently at stake in our country, with a high degree of voter disenfranchisement, cynicism, and general apathy and alienation toward civic engagement. PAFD proposes to help encourage participation in our democracy through the arts, to spur the democratic process.'
