  • Guarded Words

    images/art/clothesguardedwords.jpg?v=13

    Embroidered clothing, 1998
I wanted to take advantage of the guards ongoing presence in the gallery. Surely the guards had opinions about the art work, the public and their jobs in the galleries. I recorded those opinions (gathered in interviews) along with general gallery information onto the clothing that the guards wore while on duty during the Wisconsin Triennial. Additional clothing (with embroidered quotes) was on view on racks in the gallery.

    Guarded Words

We wear them. They wear us. They speak for us. They speak about us. They speak. With this clothing I offer some additional dialogue.
